Lois Lowery books!

"Gathering Blue"

I loved Lois Lowery's books so much when I was a teenager. Once again, good old days!

This is a science fiction novel for children and young adults, too. The character, Kara, who has a twisted leg, is orphaned and must learn to survive in a society which normally puts the weak or disabled children exposed to die in the fields. So, Kara needs a reason for the Council of Edifice to keep her alive in the village and not take her to the Field.

"The Giver"

Once again, this novel is still in the same genre, science fiction. The character, Jonas lives in a society where it eliminates the difference to stay away from pain and negative environments. Jonas' job is to be a "Receiver of Memory," the person who stores all the memories of the time before "Sameness," just in case they are ever needed to aid in decisions that others lack the experience to make. But when he gets to meet the Giver who is able to bend some rules and leaves him confused about the society and the way of living the life that he should to or not.
